Tiffany Martschink, originally from Charleston, South Carolina, joined the military after a semester of college. Originally, she was going to join the military as a Bandsman (she plays 5 instruments!), but after she passed the required audition for Tuba, she would have to wait 6 months before being able to ship out to basic training and AIT. Instead, Tiffany joined the Army as a Religious Affairs Specialist (56M) and served on both active duty and in the Army reserves for a total of 24 years of service. During that time, she also served as an Army Recruiter (79R) and an AIT Instructor amongst other roles.
In this episode, Tiffany shares a piece of her story about a specific event she experienced while serving as an Instructor/ Course Writer in the Army Reserves at the end of her career. It was at a point, while serving when she was also homeless that she experienced an MST (Military Sexual Trauma). Listen to her share her story and how it influenced what she is doing now- providing a platform for military service members, veterans, and their family members to share their personal stories by hosting this podcast- The Mettle of Honor Podcast -and advocating for those veterans dealing with mental health issues, suicide intervention, and MST survivors.
